Notes for Letitia Code

There is confusion and controversy surrounding the marriage of Letitia Code, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Codd. The following explanations are linked to discussions from Brian Baily’s website:

A family story strongly suggested that they had a daughter, LETITIA (b. 1810) who, by reputation, was disowned for marrying a DAGG who ran a tavern - but somehow history has buried this story successfully too and while Eileen Jackson seemed to believe it, it was also soundly denied by the DAGGs. Nothing has happened to either substantiate or discredit the story sufficiently as to make it real or make it disappear. It remains folklore.

Family information, one source said she married Edward Dack of Kitley Twp., Leeds County. Edward was baptized on 16 March 1806, source Aghold Church Records, Co. Wicklow son of William Dack Sr. and Jane Codd, daughter of George Codd and Rachel Twamley. The author of the Dack family history says wife of Edward, Letitia Robinson. I (Eileen Jackson) met a researcher who says Letitia Robinson was her ancestor. A mystery. All Codd researchers say our Letitia married a Dack.

Family information is that Letitia married Dack who operated a public house. She is said to have been "disowned" by the family.

There are Codd family trees for the children of Thomas and Elizabeth that do not include Letitia Code. The ships list for their passage to Canada indicates six individuals boarding with Thomas Codd. Spouse, Elizabeth, and children George, Rachel, Richard, Thomas and Abraham makes six. Perhaps Letitia should not be included as a member of this family.
