Emmett Dale Egbert

Emmett Dale Egbert peacefully passed August 20th, 2021 surrounded by all three of his children.

Dale was born 12/24/1934 in Sterling, Colorado to Orley Ordal and Esther Hine Egbert. Dale criss-crossed states between Sterling and locations in California as his father followed work to support his family post-depression. They settled in Benicia, California where Dale attended high school and played basketball, football (both ways) and competed in track as a sprinter and high jumper. He moved with his family back to Sterling before he graduated. They returned to Northern California in 1952 settling in Herlong where Dale went to work for the government at the Sierra Army Depot as a warehouse forklift operator.

He met the love of his life, Florence Adele Hildre in Herlong and they were married in June of 1954. He was 19 and Flo was 17. They had (3) children by age 22, Daryl Egbert (Eugene) Lori Bryan (Eugene) and David Egbert (Eugene). Dale was intent on moving to a city with a University where his kids could attend and that opportunity came in 1958 when Dale and Flo left their families and moved to Eugene, Oregon where he worked as a floorcovering apprentice for Chub Oster Flooring and later became a full union Journeyman installer. He worked there until the start of his own company, Imperial Floor Covering, in 1962. He later became partners with Keith Gubrud and Lee Hughes and formed Imperial Floors where he worked until his first retirement in 1982. In 1984 he started The Carpet Company with his sons and son in law, Ed Bryan, until his permanent retirement in 2003.

During his career Dale worked for and built relationships with many of the local general contractors, builders and architects. He was a member of the Home Builders Association, the World Floorcovering Association, the Construction Specifiers Institute and was on the founding board of directors for the Bank of The Northwest. He was a member of the Eugene County Club and while never an accomplished golfer, he and Flo enjoyed many friendships there. He was determined to become a gentleman rancher and built a home in the country where he raised horses, cattle and sheep and enjoyed riding his appaloosa stud, Advocator. Dale cherished his floorcovering friendships and long after retirement met once a week for Friday lunch with former floorcovering owners, reps and installers.

Dale is survived by his son Daryl (Susan) daughter Lori (Ed) and son David (Dianne) as well as 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. His was proceeded in death by his wife Flo, his sister Bonnie McIntyre and brother Ken Egbert.
