John Potts Obituary

The following is a Charlotteville, Ontario obituary for John Edwin Potts:

"Intelligence was received on Tuesday of the death of Mr. John E. Potts of Sedro Woolley, State of Washington. Mr. Potts was the son of Edwin L. Potts and grandson of Col. Jacob Potts, both of Vittoria, and lived in Norfolk until about thirty years ago. For a period extending over several years, he operated a sawmill in the township of Charlotteville, and was the builder and owner of "Elmhurst" the beautiful house just west of the town destroyed by fire two years ago. Upon leaving Norfolk in the latter part of the seventies, Mr. Potts went to Michigan and organized the John E. Potts Salt and Lumber Co. and carried on a large business for about 10 years. He then removed to the Southern States and was engaged in the same business there for a number of years, finally going to the Puget Sound lumber district, where he was occupied in lumbering until the time of his death. Mr. Potts suffered from an affection of the heart for several months, finally succumbing to the inroads of the disease on March 28th, 1909, at the age of 78 years. He was married some 48 years ago to Margaret Wilson, sister of Mr. Augustus Wilson of this town, and Dr. John Wilson of Detroit. He leaves a widow, one son and three daughters."
